Winning Personal and Professional Success with Public Speaking

Winning Personal and Professional Success with Public Speaking

Delivering an excellent speech or presentation takes much more than creating a speech and practicing it over and over until it becomes second nature to you, and you’re sick of it. The true construction of a speech begins so much earlier and consists of items that reflect the depths of your thoughts and your existence. Anyone can give a speech or deliver a presentation. It might not be very good, but most people can get through it. Think about the presentations you have sat through; maybe slept through. Even if the information was something that initially had your interest, the person delivering it was, shall we say, less than exhilarating. The problem with most speakers is, very few have risen to a level above the basics, that is beginning public speaking. Even taking a college class rarely helps, because most college classes are limited in time and professional expertise to the basics to help students become better student speakers. Let’s be realistic. How many companies hire someone because they are or have the potential to be a really good student. Companies want and need professionals.

I’ve been in the classroom and I’ve seen the kind of students that pass the classes. They aren’t terrible, but there is so much they are never shown. Most students just want to get out of the class with a passing grade, and never have to give another speech in their lives; wishful thinking. Of course, not many people are looking to become professional speakers, but there are some advanced techniques that could put some power in their presentations. There are some techniques that could make an audience member who isn’t really interested in the topic to begin with, perk up and discover something they had never though about. Maybe they aren’t interested in Play-Dough, but, with some thought, preparation, and passion about the possibilities that most people never think of, the speaker can wake the audience up and have them thinking about your words and, perhaps, wondering how they can get some and conduct their own experiments…after their children are asleep. For those of you who don’t know, Play-Doe is like clay and it smells good enough to eat, but don’t eat it.

For the professional who just wants to give a descent presentation to enhance their career, make friends, persuade, make a sale, improve their family communication and not spend years learning a new skill, the answer is to stop learning and relearning the basics of public speaking and move to a more productive advanced skill level. The problem with public speaking education is public speaking encompasses so much more than most instructors teach, or even realize. The fact is, when done correctly, public speaking covers all aspects of the communication discipline and is a part of any field pursued in and out of school. Although speaking is responsible for only 7% of human communication, it uses almost, if not all of the parts plus portions of other important disciplines like: • psychology, • art, • history, • sociology, • science, • language, • and just about any other subject you can name. Public speaking covers • subject identification, • research methods, • self-understanding, • decision-making, • coding, • transmission, • listening, receiving, • decoding, • analysis, • knowledge construction, • planning, and • delivering. We can’t for get evaluation that comes at a variety of the steps.

There are a multitude of elements that go into the identification, preparation, and delivery of a presentation that lifts audiences out of their unconsciousness. Most speakers are limited to elementary speaking techniques. To be a well-rounded professional with an eye on personal growth and building self-confidence as well -as personal and professional credibility, public speaking is an invaluable tool to have in your toolbox.

5 ways to get a proof of onward travel for your next trip

When you are heading to a new country, the boarding airline usually asks for a proof of onward travel. At the arriving airport, the immigration officers also ask for a return or onward ticket.

If you are unsure of where you will be heading next, booking a return or onward ticket can be difficult. Especially if you are a digital nomad or traveling long term, it’s difficult to know your next destination several weeks in advance.

The airline’s staff at the check-in insist on showing a return or onward flight ticket. You will be denied boarding if you are not in possession of an onward or return flight ticket. But, how can you get a return or onward ticket if you are not sure where you will be heading next? 01. Book a flight ticket with 24-hour FREE cancellation from online booking websites

02. Book a flight ticket with 24-hour FREE cancellation from airline websites

03. Rent an onward flight ticket from online travel agents The above two options require you to pay for the flight ticket upfront. Though you will get a full refund, you have to pay for the ticket first from your own pocket.

If you are strapped of cash or you don’t want to pay the full price of the ticket upfront, you can use an online travel agent. These online travel agents will pay for the ticket on your behalf and get you a flight ticket. They will cancel the ticket within 24/48 hours on your behalf. But, they will charge a fee for this service.

Below are some of the online travel agents and their fee.

Onward Ticket Visa ( https://onwardticketvisa.com ) – Price $9 USD

Ticket valid for 48 – 96 hours

Instant booking

04. Book a cheap throwaway flight ticket from budget airlines

05. Get a fake airline ticket

This is an extremely risky option. So, use this option only at your own risk.

There are a few online fake airline ticket generators. These tools generate a fake flight ticket that looks like an actual booking. These bookings are not real and cannot be verified.

Tilting the Communication Balancing Act in Your Favor

Tilting the Communication Balancing Act in Your Favor By Marvell Lawson

Communication helps us learn balance. If we just take a little time to look at the environment we live in, we see there is balance. That means there is a give and take that helps maintain the flow of ideas and understanding. For instance, when talking to a friend your conversation isn’t all one of you talking while the other is always listening; at least I hope not. Even a nod or a quiet “yes” can help to keep the conversation going. We learn that in a conversation we communicate in many different ways. A nod, a look, a grunt, a touch, a sigh, there are many ways to communicate a thought or a feeling from one person to one another. The point is that there is always a balancing that occurs. Through that balance we gain awareness of the thought processes that helps us understand ourselves better. We also understand others a little better. This doesn’t mean we understand what the other person is thinking, we only get an abstract sketch to attempt to understand what their thoughts are. Remember, however, many times they don’t know what their thoughts are.

We can cause joy or anger by merely saying one or two words that we know will elicit the response we are looking to get. Husbands and wives sometimes use this method to start an argument, or produce intimacy. A statement that would not affect most people will all of a sudden cause great rage in others. Living closely with another person provides us with the keys to unlock complete anxiety or tremendous joy. If the statement is wrongly perceived as being mean spirited, a great deal of explaining will probably be necessary to calm the angst that may flare up.

If we take the time to look at what makes our emotions take control of our otherwise rational and peaceful demeanor, we could possibly see that it is communication that causes our outburst or loving meltdown. It is the communication from outside of us yes, but it is also the communication from inside of us, or what we say to ourselves. What we believe to be true whether it is true or not. If we have balance from within, we can, sometimes, view the data we receive from others from more than one vantage point. If we can master this, we can help ourselves grow by expanding our view of our environment and the people and things within it.

Try this, read the following statement: “Sometimes I just don’t understand what you are thinking.” What does that mean to you? Does it mean that the person is always making mistakes? Does it mean the person speaking is baffled by the intelligence of the other person? Or, does it mean the person speaking’s mind doesn’t work the same way the other person’s mind works? Think about it for a few minutes. What other possibilities can you think of? Is it possible to take hurt from the statement, or just as easily take joy from the same statement? It all depends on what is happening to you internally. If you are balanced you can take in the statement, analyze it, and determine what effect it has on you; all in a couple of seconds.

Using the balance that can be found in how we communicate can determine the response that is given to the original statement. Will the statement lead to an argument or will it lead to a kiss? Or will an argument lead to a kiss?

Balance… …most people don’t stay angry for long. What if we always communicated happiness and joy? Can humans survive without something to balance that? Can there be light without darkness, love without hate? The very act of communication provides us with the meaning of each of these things, yet we struggle to understand each other.

Communication is our foundation, but communication needs balance to continue the motion of learning and growth.

Do You Need Proof of Onward Travel ?

“Do you have proof of onward travel?”, the dreaded question from airline check-in personnel.

You arrive at the airport, armed with bags, passport and your one-way ticket, ready for a big adventure exploring your next new destination. And this question pops up at check-in. Most round the world travelers and digital nomads have faced this question at one time or another, and if you aren’t prepared for it, it can ruin your trip before it even gets started.

Why do you need proof of onward travel?

People are denied entry into countries all the time. Visa problems, not meeting certain financial requirements, or previous criminal activity are just a few of the reasons. So is a suspicion that a traveler is planning to move permanently to the new place without the necessary approvals.

When a person is denied entry at immigration, it becomes the airline’s responsibility to return their passenger to their previous destination. For this reason, while the rules regarding entry are set up by a country’s government, in most cases the airlines are the ones that are checking and policing the policy.

If you travel on a round trip ticket, as most people do, that ticket is essentially your proof that you are planning on leaving the country you are visiting. A one way ticket, however, will often prompt the airline worker to ask for your proof of onward travel before you even get on the plane. And if you don’t have it, they can refuse to let you board the flight.

So, what are your options for proof of onward travel if you have a one-way ticket into another country? Buy a cheap throwaway ticket Low-cost airlines can offer fares so low that can be worth it to purchase a ticket that you don’t plan on ever using. Budget airlines are notorious for charging you for every add-on: You have luggage? That’ll be extra. You want a seat assignment? Extra! But if you’re only using the ticket for proof of onward travel you don’t need any of these extras and you can score a deal. Use a service Onward Ticket Visa ( https://onwardticketvisa.com ) provides you with legitimate and confirmed onward ticket from their website or app. The onward ticket has PNR (booking reference) with your name, and the ticket is good for 48 hours. One nice feature of this service is that they advertise that you will receive your ticket within two minutes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They charge $9 .00 for each ticket.

Mock up a fake ticket First of all, we are NOT recommending that anyone attempt to defraud an airline or immigration service. That said, our research has shown that a lot of travelers use variations of this method. Some people we talked to use an old ticket, and change the dates and departure using photoshop.

Others have faked an email from a travel agent, mocking up an itinerary. Travel blogger Wandering Earl even provides a how-to article on mocking up a ticket on his blog.

In preparation for this article, we reached out to a number of travel communities to see if anyone had actually been caught with a fake ticket, and couldn’t find a single person who had. So, the risk seems low, but I’m not sure this option is worth it.

Also, keep in mind that particularly suspicious airline personnel can look up your reservation number and flight on their own system while you wait.

Pros: Perfect for do-it-yourselfers, and won’t cost you anything

Cons: Technically, you are lying to airport personnel or an immigration officer. If you get caught – fines, deportation, prison time?

Purchase a round trip ticket Airline pricing is a very strange beast. Rarely is a round trip ticket twice the cost of a one-way ticket. We’ve even seen one way fares that are basically the same as the round trip. So, if you can find a cheap return fare (look for terrible/unpopular flight times or multiple stops on the return and you’ll probably get a deal). It might be worth it to purchase it since you’re not planning on using anyway.

Pros: You won’t even be asked the dreaded question

Cons: You’ll probably pay more than you would for a one-way ticket

Plan ahead and buy a real ticket

Of course, this is what most airlines and governments expect – full-time travelers or digital nomads aren’t the norm, and they expect vacationers and business travelers to always book a round trip or onward ticket. If you’re planning a couple of months in advance, you can already know your next destination and book a real ticket, that you’re planning on using.

We have our next destination planned about half of the time, and it certainly makes things easier. Just make sure to have a hard copy or a pdf of your ticket on your phone available if asked.

Shell out for a fully refundable ticket A full fair ticket is usually refundable, though you might want to check the fine print on the specific airline you’re doing this with to be sure you don’t get stuck paying some nonrefundable tax or fee. It also might take time to get the money back, so if you’re short on cash it might not be an option.

In the U.S., the Dept. of Transportation requires all carriers for flights booked in the USA to be cancelled within 24 hours. Most airlines offer this cancellation as an option, with the exception of American Airlines, which instead allows you to “hold” a reservation for 24 hours without a purchase.

Make sure to read the fine print when using this option. It doesn’t apply to tickets not purchased in the USA, and the terms may be different if the actual flight is on a partner airline rather than the airline site you are booking on.

What’s the best option? That’s really up to you, and your level of comfort with risk. After trying many of these over the years, and looking into the options further for this post, I think some of the services that allow you to “rent” a ticket are our best bet. Ten bucks is a small price to pay to not worry, and to not have to do battle with the airlines trying to get your money refunded.

Self-directed Learning

Self-directed Learning by Marvell Lawson

Students look to instructors to show them the way to success; however, self-directed learning is the best way to identify talents and opportunities. The instructor’s job is to present abstract ideas to the students. The student’s job then is to take the ideas, pull them into their cubes and determine what the meanings are. The thought process students go through is what makes learning all the more worthwhile. It is their views that create new directions in thought. Unfortunately, the education system and society work to destroy the initiative and creativity of students. Students learn to conform. That is left over from the industrial revolution, and the need to fit in. Students are turned out on a conveyer belt to do what they are told and to fit in so there is no disturbance. The problem with that is, if students only do what they’re are told, and don’t think for themselves, the chances of them inventing something new, or discovering something new dwindles with time. What we should be encouraging students to do is to look at alternative ways of doing almost everything. That doesn’t mean we have to change what we do, but we should realize that there are many different ways of doing everything. There are as many ways as there are people to think them up. If we think of many different ways to do things and discuss them with each other we can refine our thinking and perhaps come up with some new and interesting workable ideas. No more thinking outside of the box, but taking other people’s ideas into our boxes and seeing them from our unique personal perception. That, after all, is the only way we can see anything; through our own perception.

We need to understand and operate from the position that just because something has always been done a certain way, doesn’t mean that it should always be done that way. We need to Think and be Creative. Thinking is built into humans. We think. That’s what we do. We can’t stop thinking. I’m always amazed at the people who say, “I just don’t want to think for a while.” How do you do that? There is always something going on in our brains; or at least I hope there is. Even if it is something mundane, we are always thinking about something. When we are resting, is probably a very good time to come up with new ideas. Let our minds wonder by themselves and it’s amazing what they come up with. Our mind thinks so many thoughts that we can’t consciously keep up. Just because we are unaware doesn’t mean our minds aren’t thinking hundreds of thousands of thoughts every minute. Our minds are processing everything they pick up from the five senses and processing the data through the sixth sense…our perception. The other senses are of no use to us if we don’t have that sixth sense. That is what decodes and stores all the information that bombards us twenty-four hours a day every day.

When we see something, we only consciously see a limited number of things; however, our eyes see everything. What we are aware of depends on the focus of our minds. We, however, see so much more than we realize. The same is true of the other senses. Hearing… … we hear everything, but we notice a limited number of sounds, and the same is true for taste, touch, and smell. Our perception is what bundles the information together so we can understand and use it. ### ? Who Should You Rely on for Your Business Direction?

Who Should You Rely on for Your Business Direction? By Marvell Lawson When starting a small business don’t be fooled by people who tell you that having a strong background in business is the only way to succeed. Yes, business background can be valuable when starting and running a business, but that’s not the only piece needed to create and operate a successful business. Business acumen is like the bricks in a structure, while communication is the mortar that holds the bricks together and gives power and stability to the stacked bricks. Of course, your specialty will be the roof. That’s where you’ll shine. Starting a business based on what you know and love built on a solid foundation of business and communication will give you an edge to achieve your success. The secret to success is taking a chance on what you think is the best way to manage your business. It’s easy to find people who will tell you the “best” way to run a business. They seem always to be around, whether you asked for their opinion or not. Taking advise is great, but never forget that you are the focal point and catalyst of your business. You need to determine the direction your business will go, and what your true goal is. You will determine what procedures will increase the probability of you achieving your goals. No one else can know what your inner feelings are, thus no one will be able to plan the steps on the path that will lead to your business happiness and success. You are the leader who will lead your workers to success, even if there is only one worker, you. So, get advice, then trust yourself and make a decision. Remember, when you make a decision that doesn’t work out, you know what you were trying to accomplish, and you can make knowledgeable adjustments to help you reach your aspirations. The important thought here is people, you, are the most important decision maker for your business. What you think, the end you’re expecting, the action you’ll take, and the real control of the company is with you, as it should be. Your company will be uniquely you. It will be like no other company on the planet. It will be yours. This is the view of a communication specialist rather than a business manager. The communication expert focuses on the human elements involved with creating and developing a successful business, because it is humans that conceive, build, and produce the service or product, and it is humans who desire, pursue, and receive the service or product. It’s the people that make the company; their hopes, ideas, perceptions, knowledge, and creativity that establishes the marketing cycle. Without the people, on both sides, seller and purchaser, there can be no organization. When it’s your company it becomes an exciting extension of you instead of you becoming an easily replaceable extension of the company. *** ? Confident Speaker

Confident Speaker By Marvell Lawson

Have you ever watched a movie that made the tears fill your eyes with overflowing empathy for the character or the situation that immersed the character dragging you in too? Have you ever read a book that so involved you that you didn’t want to put it down until you found out what came on the next page, and the next, and the next, and at the last page, wish there were more? Have you ever heard something that ignited an infernal within you that moved you to finding out more about the subject? Well, those are the types of communication experiences that you should strive for with your speeches and presentations. Anyone can give a speech; some good, some begging for more work, but giving a good speech, now there is the issue for which we will attempt to uncover a method.

Basic communication comes easy for most of us. We can let people know when we are hungry, hurt, sleepy, sad, or happy. Those are the easy ones. How do we express our thoughts? How can we explain something so abstract that there aren’t words that truly explain the thought or idea? No one can see within our minds to comprehend the exact meaning of our attempt to convey to them a meaningful abstract idea or needed information? The question is, do we understand the message we want to send?

The difficult element of giving a speech has been grossly misunderstood. Standing in front of a group of people is the easy part. Even speaking to a group of people is easy. The hard part comes in eight parts: 1. Determining the topic 2. Collecting the supporting information 3. Determining what will actually be covered in the speech 4. Organizing the order of the material 5. Coding the information (how will the information be transmitted) 6. What will the audience hear us telling them? 7. How will the audience interpret the information they receive? 8. How to get feedback that suggests understanding of the message

In addition, these five points are usually given little attention, because we tend to spend most of our time dreading standing in front of people, and then confidently speaking to them. Our presentation would be so much easier if we: 1. Knew exactly in detail what we want to speak about 2. Have enough information to fill two or three times the amount of time allotted for the presentation 3. Map out the path our speech will follow 4. Identify and practice the staging, equipment, and delivery that will build audience curiosity to learn more about our topic 5. Know what action we want our audience to take or what we want them to think

Covering these points will move you to the advanced level. Here you will find that the real anxiety is in the preparation not in the delivery. Once you have control of your presentation much of the fear will be erased. You will be able to present with confidence. Your audience will never know that you are nervous and your knees are knocking, because you will look and present like a professional. Good job! ###

Ideas the Nourishment of Small Business

Ideas the Nourishment of Small Business

When was the last time you stood in front of a group of people and gave a speech? How did you determine what your topic would be, how you should construct the speech, how long it should be, or what props you should use? Where did you find the courage to stand up and face the audience? Facing the prospect of giving a speech sometimes makes even the strongest quake. This is odd to me, because most of us can talk perfectly well when talking to our relatives and friends, but the first time we say give a speech mouths go dry, heart beats quicken, perspiration starts to flow, and bells, whistles, and drums start pounding in our heads.

Giving a speech is, or at least should be just like talking to your friends and family. If you have something to say, you should be able to communicate your thoughts to yourself and to others. That is, if you have something to say. Therefore, the first step is to know what you want to talk about. What are your thoughts? What do you want your audience to learn and what action do you want them to take as a result of your speech? The disappointing truth is half your audience will forget your main points by the time they pass through the doorway to the room. Half of them will forget what you talked about by the time they exit the building. Half of them will forget you even gave a presentation by the time they get to their cars to go home. By the time they get home they’ll forget they were at your presentation. What you want is to have them say to someone later, “Someone gave a talk on…” That’s when you’ll know you were successful, but you won’t know, because you won’t be there to hear the conversation.

That being the case, why bother speaking at all? The most important is you must truly have something to say. This something should be important to you… preferably something you feel passionate about. Your topic could be on dieting, sports, politics, war, playing games, or literally anything. You and your opinions are just as valid as anyone else’s. What you say may spark a thought in someone else’s mind that could lead to an advancement in medicine, transportation, or literature. What you say may have been said before, but with some thought and creativity, you can present ideas in a different way, from your personal point of view, to help more people grasp the concepts.

The purpose of your speech is to place an abstract idea into your audiences’ cube. Their cube is their mind. Taking the idea into their mind and viewing it from the unique perspective. Each individual provides us with a plethora of possibilities. That’s why it’s a good idea to communicate our ideas, because someone else can take that idea to the next level, or show us something we hadn’t thought of to help us grow. We are not responsible to take any idea to its end. In fact, if done right, there will be no end to the learning process. We think our own thoughts and draw our own conclusions, then pass them on to society to let someone else take our ideas to the next level. The important thing to remember here is, we can always build on an idea, and we must always be aware of and reinforce that possibility.

We are not on this little blue marble all alone, and the reason for that may be the synergy formed through the collaboration between our individual self and others. Is it possible that our purpose is to plant seeds of ideas in as many heads as possible, and then to let others grow the seeds into strong trees, beautiful flowers, or food? That must be our purpose; to grow ideas, to grow ourselves, and to contribute to humanity.

What Do You Want?

What Do You Want?

We spend a lot of time doing things that we really don’t want to do, then we complain about doing them. Well, what is it you really want to do? There are people who work their entire lives at a job they don’t like, maybe even hate, stay with the same person they don’t like, wasting their lives away. Usually the reason for this is they never seriously asked themselves, “What do you want?”

Going through life settling for what you get isn’t living. It’s just marking time until you die. Listening to people who say, “Why do you think you should be able to do what you want, no one else can.” If we listen to them then that is our fault, because that isn’t true. We should get what we want. We should be happy with our lives. Sometimes we must do things we don’t want to do, but our lives certainly shouldn’t be doing one thing after another that we don’t want to do, making ourselves more and more miserable day after day.

For some reason society seems to have taken control of our lives. Although it is true that society has an important place that keeps order and protects us, but the control of our lives is something that we must take and keep if we are to enjoy our time here on this planet.

We should sit down with pencil and paper and ask ourselves the tough question. There is only one. “What do we want?” Is it a loving significant other, and family, a house, money, a nice car, to travel? What? If we don’t know how can we ever put ourselves on the path to getting it? I once read a book that’s title covers this perfectly. If You Don’t Know Where You’re Going, You’ll Probably End Up Somewhere Else. How would you like to be sitting in a rocking chair at the end of your life, going over all the things you didn’t do, instead of smiling about all the things you did do? Wouldn’t you rather think about all the fun you had. Sure, you made some mistakes, but if the truth be told, some of those mistakes turn out pretty good too.

So, take your list and starting today, get out and do those things that you always wanted to do. It’s not a “bucket” list. It’s the list that you always had, but someone told you that you couldn’t do them and you believed them…silly you. Come on let’s get started. Remember this if you don’t remember anything else: “It’s never to late until the day after you die…and we’re not really sure about that.”

Thinking inside the box

Thinking inside the box

Everyone is encased in their very own safe three-dimensional cubes. In this cube they see the world. They see the physical world, they see the imaginary world, they see the world of total abstraction. Everything about the world can be, no, is seen from within each individual’s cube. All available information, knowledge, and understanding are only accessed from inside each individual’s cube. Why is this important? Everything each individual comes in contact with, every thought, every idea, and every decision is first filtered through the bias of their cube. We can only know and understand that, that we can conceived of through our personal or inherited experience. This is where our perception is created and our perception is the only possible reality we can know.

We are born with a certain amount of information already imprinted inside us. Carl Jung calls it the collective unconscious. Passed down to us from generation to generation from the very beginning of our ancestral archetypes, we are the sum and total of everyone who has gone before us and marked us with the genetic patterns passed to us through their genes. We add to that DNA strand yes, but we build on the shoulders of every one of our ancestors who came before us.

With that thought in mind consider the fact that we can only see the world from the position inside our cube. We can never fully understand what anyone else is thinking, because we can never see the world through their filters. Even identical twins, although alike in many ways, they are not the same, nor do they have the complete identical infusion of the exact same make up. They are very similar, but not the same.

We are constantly bombarded with abstract ideas from all around us. Ideas from other people, ideas from our senses, and ideas from our emotions constantly keep our minds and our bodies decoding a continuous stream of stimuli 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, year in and year out, until death stop the machine from processing, and the machine starts to decay into a memory. We don’t know how we can do these things, but somehow, we can receive ideas from the cosmic plan into our cubes and expand our knowledge.

We expand our knowledge by taking new ideas into our cube, analyzing it and forming our personal thought of what that idea is and what it means to us. We say we understand what others tell us, but in fact we only understand what our filtering system tells us. We can never know for sure if what we understand to be the true thoughts of someone else are in fact true thoughts or just another manifestation from inside our cube.

What of the size of our cube? Is it infinitely small or infinitely large? Does it grow with the assimilation of new information? When the new information is added to what we already know does our knowledge expand exponentially, or does it just grow by adding the new information? Well, we know our knowledge grows more than the level of the new information, because we view the information from many different perspectives. We use our past knowledge, and experiences to form different ways of view the information as we determine new ways to use it. So, we are growing at an amazing rate. Just as our physical selves are growing stronger, so too is our mental strength. The knowledge we have now so much surpasses the knowledge of the wisest minds of past civilizations. Elementary school children solve problems that only the very learned people of ancient cultures could barely dream of.

The bottom line is, we cannot think outside of our boxes. We are not prisoners, for our cubes are what give us the foundation on which we can grow. Through that growth we are building more information to pass on to future generations, thus expanding the possibilities for understanding the cosmos and how we fit and how we can contribute instead of destroy. Instead of thinking outside our boxes, we should be expanding our boxes to encompass more of the information available in the universe.

Listening in More than One Way

Listening in More than One Way

Did you know that we listen with more than our ears? We listen to people when they talk to us or to others, if we eavesdrop a little, but there are multiple ways we listen. One of the main ways we listen is with our eyes. Often times we see what people are telling us. An easy message we receive with our eyes is “Bye, bye” that is taught to babies. We say the words, but we also wave our hands. It is so cute when babies wave backwards to themselves. They wave the way they see us wave at them. How about saying hi? We can do that with a wave of the hand or we can just mouth the word. We can sometimes read joy, pain, surprise, shock, anger, or an assortment of other emotions. We can see these emotions in people’s faces, but we can also see them in the way their body posture speaks to us. We can tell the confidence someone shows by the way they hold their head up, look us in the eye, stand tall, or hunch over with the look of defeat. Our eyes see everything. The question is, out of the vast amount of information our eyes see, how much of it is registered in our conscious minds? Our eyes see so much that we are never aware of consciously, but those pictures are stored in files in our minds forever. We may not be aware of them, but when needed, they become part of our conscious awareness and the foundation for our decisions. Indeed, our eyes are probably one the most used receptors of information humans have. The ears, it is assumed, hear messages. That is true, but the ears do other things too. For instance, the ears help us keep our balance. If the middle ear is damaged or off a bit, our world could be literally turned upside down. Have you ever thought of how we know which way is up? Balance comes from our ears. What about the air pressure? Our ears can tell us when the atmosphere is getting thin or the water is getting deep. Ears aren’t just for hearing. If we listen, our sense of touch can also receive communications. Is it hot, or is it cold? Are we wearing the right cloths; how do they feel on our skin. What about the warm touch from that someone special, or that sharp slap of reprimand? We often communicate through touch. We can use the other senses as well. Taste, smell, and for some the feeling that someone is staring at you or standing near are other ways in which we listen. Ideally, we recognize that listening covers much more than auditory perception. Of course, that is important to most of us, but if we truly listen, truly listen with as many faculties as we can bring to bear, then we will better understand what is being communicated to us. We will receive a much better picture of what is communicated. We will also be able to communicate at a much different level, and perhaps become better communicators in the process. ### ? The Failure of a Good Business Education

The Failure of a Good Business Education By Marvell Lawson

Where did the idea of starting and running a successful business come from? Is having a good business background the path to success? Is having knowledge of the business you want to undertake the secret? The important question is, are there examples of successes that had no business background at all? Usually, background comes from taking business classes and learning the workings of business organizations through experience. Well, the truth is, the reason for so many business failures in one to five years is the foundation of a successful business isn’t structured on a solid knowledge of business practices, but the solid knowledge of communication and its practice. Don’t misunderstand me. Knowledge of business is very valuable, but the true foundation of a successful business is definitely not business knowledge. If it were, there would be many more successful businesses. All you would have to do is read one or two of the business guides out of the tens of thousands, follow their suggestions and, Vuala! You would have a successful thriving business with hardly any thought or effort at all. Well, how has that work for so many hopefuls of the new businesses that start every year? The truth is, business isn’t the foundation, but only a branch stemming from the actual foundation. The real foundation is communication. Every business is different. For that reason, trying to pound your business into someone else’s pigeonhole can be extremely frustrating. New issues always pop up that weren’t addressed before, because your situation is entirely different than every other business that has gone before yours. Similar? Maybe, but how you got here and what you think about the situation and how you think it can best be handled is, or at least should be, completely different than every other business leader. You may learn from examples of how other business managers handled similar issues, but did they use the best options? What is the difference between their problem and yours? How is the business climate different? Were they trying to accomplish the same goals you are trying to accomplish? This is the place where you actually take control or responsibility for your business. If you’re not ready for that, go get a job working for someone else.

Out of all the Business school graduates, how many of them start and run a successful business or become strong business leaders in their industry? Many of them, most of them spend their work lives working for someone else. That’s not a bad thing, it’s a choice. Starting and running a successful small business takes a special kind of person. They can learn to start and operate their businesses by reading a few books and paying attention to the business world that surrounds them every day. The discipline that will help you no matter what business you start or manage is communication. A business minor can be good, but if you are a good manager, why not hire someone to do needed business work like accounting, clerical, government policy, sales and marketing, finance, purchasing, office management, janitorial, IT, strategic planning, and all the other jobs you need done to start and keep your business going? When will you find time to do what you are good at, what you like doing, and what you want to spend your time doing?

When you decide on your business structure, who really decides? Your mentor, your consultant, your lawyer, your accountant, or you? Do you have time to learn all the aspects of business that will help you become successful? What if you learned to communicate well with people so you can accomplish your goals? What if you learn where to search for the information you need and how to acquire that information, and get it to the right people who will make the decisions and take the action that will lead your company toward the path to success? Communication is designed to acquire valued information, translate it, disseminate it, and use it to accomplish your desired objectives.

Education is vital to your success regardless of what avenue you pursue. Ask yourself this: • What do I want to accomplish? • What information do I need to accomplish my goal? • How will I use a communication system to receive and transmit needed information? • How will I monitor the information over time? • Who will put the communication system into practice and manage it?

The failure of a good business education isn’t what is taught in the courses. It is the foundation on which the premise of constructing a successful business is built.

I’m reminded of a woman who was in a network meeting I attended. She was starting a business and recognized that she needed help. She found that getting advice was free but overwhelming. She could go to school which seemed to have little promise of helping her do what she was trying to get done or… And that was her question. Or what? Through tears of frustration she broke down and stated, “I don’t know where to go to get the information I need. Everyone tells me something different. Who should I believe? How do I decide?” Her issues were a business issue, yes, but more than that she had communication issues. She didn’t know what questions to ask or where to find the answers, or how to tap into the communication structure that would show her what her options were. Starting and running a business isn’t about your education as much as how you communicate to yourself what you want to accomplish, then develop a plan by asking the right questions and getting the answers to those question. Realizing, of course, that the questions keep changing and there are many, many different answers to each question and they keep changing also.

Your education doesn’t come from an external source. School can give you an outline of possible disciplines, different paths to try, but education is only an outline that the serious student must follow-up on their own time. School is just a starting point; the real education begins and ends with you…always with you. You make the decisions and new rules of business success. The tool that will help you make those decisions is communication. Communication is what makes your business work. Communication is what makes everything you learn about business work for you. Without communication, you can have no business. Education never ends, it’s 24/7/365 with no vacation, ever. The important factor is what education provides to you, what you need to succeed, and how it is communicated to you?

Clouding Reality with Perception

Clouding Reality with Perception

By

Marvell Lawson

You are equipped with everything you need to succeed when you are conceived. Before you are born you receive from all your ancestors the wisdom, the fears, the intelligence, and the instincts that can ensure your survival. Think about it. Look at yourself in a mirror. The color of your hair, your eyes, your height, your build all is passed down to you from your ancestors, from the archetype of your entire family strain. The fear of heights, whether you are an introvert or an extrovert; all was passed to you at the moment the sperm entered into the egg and started to divide over and over until you were formed. If we look the way our ancestors looked, then it stands to reason that we think and feel similarly too.

The fact that we come into this world with a basic framework imprinted in our cells would lead us to the next step of seeing the way we learn is by associating the new material we receive from our five senses and our emotions to that, that is imprinted in us at our conception. Babies are not a blank slate. In fact, babies are born with the answers to many of the questions we develop as we grow older. What happens is babies are taught, conditioned, brain washed into forgetting what they know so they can be indoctrinated into the society that is made up of individual perceptions. Reality is trained out of us from the very beginning. Once we are able to talk, we only remember what the “meaningless” words represent, and we begin to develop a new reality based on our new environment. Our parents teach us the way of this new world, but more than that, our parents teach us what not to remember. This is supported by society.

As we grow older reality becomes what we perceive it to be. Everyone has a different perception; therefore, everyone has a different reality. This is difficult to grasp at first for many, but consider this thought. We can only perceive things from one point of view; our own. We cannot perceive from anyone else’s point of view regardless of how hard we try. Until such time as we can telepathically see into someone else’s mind, we will never completely understand what they are thinking. Even then the question is would we understand the emotion or the senses feelings? We can only understand our own emotion and senses, which is made possible by our individual perception.

The issue facing us isn’t the existence of information, but how that information is communicated. How is information transmitted, how it is received, and how it is interpreted? Our knowledge is based on ###

How To Overcome Codependency In Your Marriage

Are you married to an addict or someone with deep personal issues?

Is your marriage or family life going through a difficult time because of problems, financial concerns, abuse, or caring for a physically or emotionally handicapped family member?

If so, do you find yourself making excuses for these issues? Calling in sick for your alcoholic husband? Taking over the housework because your poor spouse is just too depressed to help? Denying that abuse is going on in your own home? Do you find yourself taking charge and bearing the burdens of the entire marriage or family?

You may be codependent and this is a serious issue in marriages and families.

You may have learned to be codependent due to your family background. It happened in your family so you tend to be attracted to the same situation once you marry.

You may have learned behaviors such as making excuses, tuning out, controlling, excessive caretaking, being hyper-vigilant because you feel that you should do something to save your family from shame or to at least diffuse the situation and keep the peace. You also do this because you desire to be needed and fear doing anything that would change the relationship.

Unfortunately, while such behaviors may reduce conflict and tension in the meantime, they won’t help in the long term. All you are doing is reinforcing the situation and even, allowing it to worsen. You are also allowing yourself to be lost within the situation and, in the long run, may find yourself no longer able to cope.

What can you do to overcome codependence in your marriage and family life?

If you are reading this short article and have come to recognize that you do have this problem – congratulations. That is the first step in beginning to overcome codependence. Admit that you have a problem and take steps to begin changing it. It will require both self-help and professional help.

More often than not, these issues stem from deep-seated psychological problems. Don’t let shame keep you from seeking the help of a counselor or psychologist. Additionally, there are programs similar to Codependents’ Anonymous that will help you process your issues and provide you with tools on how to overcome them.

Your partner or family member may also need professional help, especially if they are battling clinical conditions or addiction. Work at getting them the help they need, whether they want it or not. There are some excellent suggestions in savemymarriagetoday.com’s ebook “How to Change Your Partner from Addiction, Even If they don’t want to!”

If there is abuse in your home, more radical steps must be taken. For the sake of your own self-respect and for your children, if you have any, break away from the situation. Find a shelter or group that will help you gain your independence and help you through healing and recovery.

Codependents need healing too and, once recognized, you should not allow the situation to continue. Get help.
